The global mission of UNAIDS as the main advocate for worldwide action against
HIV/AIDS is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response to the epidemic.
This response has four goals:
to prevent the spread of HIV;
to provide care and support for those infected and affected by the disease;
to reduce the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS;
to alleviate the socioeconomic and human impact of the epidemic.
The purpose of the Fund is to attract, manage and disburse additional resources
through a new public-private partnership that will make a sustainable and
significant contribution to the reduction of infections, illness and death,
thereby mitigating the impact caused by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
in countries in need, and contributing to poverty reduction as part of the
Millenium Development goals.
To support implementation of its HIV/AIDS strategy, the Bank has established
a multisectoral AIDS Campaign Team for Africa (ACTafrica), based in the Office
of the Regional Vice President for Africa. The high-level placement of ACTafrica
underscores the Bank's commitment to HIV/AIDS prevention and care and enables
the team to maximize collaboration among the various sector families. The
team serves as the region's focal point and clearinghouse on HIV/AIDS and
will provide a variety of services.
loveLife is a comprehensive national adolescent behaviour
change intervention designed to reduce the rate of HIV infection,
other sexually transmitted infections
and pregnancy among adolescents. The loveLife strategy combines a sustained,
high visibility media education and awareness campaign, with countrywide youth–friendly
service development in government clinics and community level outreach and
support programs for young people.
Uganda's response to the epidemic has been marked with high political commitment
at various level, openness about HIV/AIDS that enhanced behaviour change
communication interventions, unprecedented support from international development
partners; and action from sectors of government and civil society. This website
provides information on the status and trends of the epidemic in the country.
It serves as an information sharing platform about the country's responses
to HIV/AIDS over the years, highlights challenges and proposals for the way
forward to addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the community, district and
national levels.
Our mission is to contribute to the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria
by improving the quality of HIV/AIDS communication messages and by strengthening
the quality of policy response and interventions.
